Why is a sense of detachment equated with the idea of renouncing the world?!
totally agree with you!!!
I think the common misconception is that ‘detachment’ is equated to being a hermit. Which is justified, given all the ‘hermit oriented’ philosophies such as Hinduism, have ‘detachment’ as their means to reaching the ‘goal’ of getting rid of this life that you are living.
I somehow think big philosophers and spiritualists such as Ramana Maharishi must not have used too many metaphors to describe their philosophies… for its human nature to get lost in the metaphors than in trying to understand the metaphor in its spirit. I think Ramana Maharishi’s “Who Am I?” is very very close to Zen. The Brahman concept is interpreted in very different ways… and I think that is where this entire ambiguity stems from.
if u orkut!! then u wud read mah reaction!!!
